Avery Matteoni is the daughter of Sgt. Anthony Matteoni (of Union City, Michigan) and Lindsy Matteoni. Avery was selected as the 2011 Willis Foundation Scholarship Recipient. She will receive a future-use scholarship for her college tuition and expenses.

While Sgt. Matteoni was serving in the Helmund Province of Afghanistan, his wife Lindsy called to tell him that he was going to be a father of a little girl. The very next day, Anthony was killed in combat, never having the opportunity to meet his baby girl. Avery was born in February 2011.
